Welcome to Trotternish, Isle of Skye, Scotland

Hello to all!!

Skye Walking Holidays is back, under new ownership, up and running (ok, walking), and to those of you who have not received an answer to emails and letters may I take this opportunity to express my apologies (there are only 24 hours in one day!). However I hope the following information will help you all to decide that you would like to come and join us for a few days walking.

My name is Kevin, and I have spent 16 years in the Royal Marine Commandos, but don't worry, as nobody will be force marched anywhere!! At Skye Walking Holidays we aim to make it enjoyable for all, not the few.

Accommodation and food is provided by the wonderfully situated Duntulm Castle Hotel, right on the sea's edge, in the Trotternish Peninsula of Northern Skye.

The Skye Walking Holiday packages include 4 nights in Duntulm Castle Hotel, and three full day guided walks, taken by myself or one of my team. Distances per day range from 10K – 14K, oh you say, thats not far, and if you are walking along a nice straight road, you would be right. However the romans did not reach the Isle of Skye!! And as for straight, I think we can safely say that the island is anything but flat!

We have tailored the three days walking to incorporate coastal and inland routes. The wildlife is absolutely fantastic, and you will expect to see on the coastal walk, seals, minke whales and basking sharks, maybe even a stray dolphin swimming by, and not forgetting the odd otter, and believe me otters are very odd and have a very nasty bite!

On the inland routes there are various eagles, buzzards, highland cattle etc. to keep you busy with your cameras, we will also visit the Skye Museum and Flora Macdonald's monument on one of the routes, as well as Duntulm Castle itself, and an old Viking settlement (no metal detectors please!)

For the keener walkers amongst us, we will in future months be starting the Skye Walking five night, four day walking holiday, which will involve longer walks, taking in Dunvegan and other areas around Skye. From a personal point of view, with safety being paramount, I would have to see how people cope on the three day walks, to assess their ability to go on to the longer routes, baring in mind each and every one of us is different (wouldn't life be boring if we were all the same!)

Our flagship walking holiday will be a six night 5 day walking experience including two nights under canvas in the Cullins. However as that is still a long way off, we will stop twittering about that just now.

Now the question everyone's asking, how much? And when?

The reason for the courses being 3 days of walking is for those of you who have walked or indeed those of you who haven't, you will appreciate that three straight days of going out doing it, can take its toll, and the enjoyment factors can waiver. To this end, for those of you who would like to stay on, either side of the walking holiday, and do your own thing, we can arrange that also.

Firstly the price for the four night, three day package is £400 per person inc VAT. This includes four nights Bed, Breakfast and Evening Meal at the Duntulm Castle Hotel, a packed lunch on the walking days and a guide for each day.

Lastly but by no means less important is the kit list required, you will need to bring the following:

1.A good strong, sturdy pair of walking boots.
2.Wet weather gear (top and bottom) hopefully not needed!!
3.Gaiters (optional)
4.Woolly Hat (optional!) (come on everyone wears a woolly hat don't they?!)
5.Windproof top (optional, but advisable)

If you have any queries, concerns, etc. please call 01470 552213, and I will be more than happy to go over our details with you.
