The Hotel & Castle

Duntulm Castle Hotel

Through the window I beheld the spectral castle, the sea upon which the light was dying, the purple fringe of Harris on the horizon, and seated here in the remotest corner of Skye, amongst people whom I have never seen, girt by walls of cliffs and the sounding sea, in a region too in which there was no proper night, I confess to have been conscious of a pleasant feeling of strangeness, of removal from all customary conditions of thought and locality, which I like at times to recall and enjoy over again'
The above quotation is from Alexander Smith's renowned book 'A Summer in Skye'. He wrote these words while staying at the Duntulm Inn in 1865. His words and feelings are as true today as they were over a hundred years ago.

Duntulm Castle

A homely Inn in an idyllic setting...

Family owned and run, Duntulm Castle Hotel is situated at the very Northern tip of the Isle of Skye. It is a perfect base for a walking holiday with an informal, relaxed atmosphere and friendly local Gaelic staff.

Only one hundred yards from the sea shore of Tulm Bay, the Hotel enjoys magnificent panoramic views across the Minch to the Outer Isles.

On the headland to the south of the bay, just a ten minute stroll from the Hotel, are the ruins of famous Duntulm Castle. This impressive and almost impregnable castle has 50 foot cliffs on three sides and who's ownership was bloodthirstily contested by the MacDonald and Macleod Clans for generations.

   Stroll into the scenery...

The Hotel's situation, enables you to walk for miles from our front door amid fabulous unspoiled scenery without need to use the car.

Immediately to the North of the Hotel is the unspoilt wilderness of the Rubha Hunish headland with it's cliffs, deserted villages, magnificent views and wildlife. Whales, dolphins and porpoises are frequently seen by our walking groups on Rubha Hunish.

Originally a shooting lodge dating back to the 1860's, the main house of the lodge has been extended and modernised to provide a total of 28 bedrooms. Approximately 50 guests can be accommodated in a mixture of twin, double, single and family bedrooms.
