From Glasgow take the A82 by way of the west bank of Loch Lomond to Crianlarich...

From Glasgow/Edinburgh alternatively take the M80 (Glasgow) or M9 (Edinburgh) to Stirling and then follow the A84 via Callander and Strathyre to Lochearnhead from where you take the A85 to Crianlarich...

From Crianlarich the A82 goes via Tyndrum, Bridge of Orchy, Rannoch Moor, Glencoe - and over the bridge that replaced the ferry at Ballachulish in 1975 - to Fort William.

Through and beyond Fort William the A82 passes through Spean Bridge and alongside Loch Lochy to Invergarry.

At Invergarry turn left onto the A87 towards Skye. 50 metres further on the Invergarry Hotel should be on your right. If it isn't... stop! You are heading towards Inverness instead of Skye!
Without breaks the journey from this hotel to your next marker - Shiel Bridge - should take no longer than 50 minutes.

From Inverness take the A82 to Invermoriston and turn right onto the A887. Near Cluanie Dam, this road meets up with and becomes the A87 and leads directly to Shiel Bridge.

From Shiel Bridge you may follow the A87 to the Skye Bridge via Kyle alternatively during the summer months you may like to take the more adventurous route via the Glenelg - Kylerhea ferry. At Shiel Bridge Shop & BP Service Station, road signs will indicate a left turn for Glenelg and the ferry more details of this route on the 'Skye Ferry' website.

Either of the above routes will lead you to Broadford on Skye from where you follow the A87 to Portree

From Portree you may take the more scenic route via Staffin and continue past Flodigarry to Duntulm. This road takes you past the impressive Old Man of Storr and Lealt and Kilt Rock Falls

Or alternatively the slightly faster route via the port of Uig - Follow signs to Staffin from Uig (a right turn before reaching the harbour). This route is good for dramatic views of the Western Isles particularly in the evenings and of course sunsets!

Much of the route beyond Portree is a single track road, there are well defined and regular 'passing places' please be courteous to other road users.
